Tiger Mountain Summit Trailhead to Close for Expansion and Renovation During Summer 2025

The project will close the trailhead from early June until November 2025 and will increase accessibility of the nearby trail system.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will close the Tiger Mountain Summit Trailhead in the Snoqualmie area of King County from June 9 until November 1, 2025 to renovate and expand the trailhead parking lot.
The current parking lot was built more than 30 years ago and is no longer suitable for the increased popularity of the recreation site and growing population in the area. Renovations will include expanding the lot from its current 50 car capacity to allow space for more than 170 vehicles. The expansion will make the area more accessible for equestrian and mountain bike users, hikers, and ADA parking.
“As more people across Washington are getting outside to experience the beauty that our state has to offer, we need to provide opportunities that are safe and accessible for all our neighbors,” said Commissioner of Public Lands Dave Upthegrove. “Through this upgrade, we are doing just that and meeting the needs of the moment and our communities. I’m eager for folks to see the new and improved trailhead and can’t wait to meet you all out there for a hike!”
The trail system will remain open; however, the trailhead closure will impact access. Recreators are advised to find alternative options to explore nearby, such as at the Raging River State Forest.
Timber harvested from the area will be used by DNR’s Large Wood Supply Initiative to provide large woody material for the Issaquah Creek Restoration Project. DNR’s Large Wood Supply Initiative works to get trees from DNR-managed lands into the hands of salmon recovery partners. The Issaquah Creek Restoration Project, implemented by the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, will create better habitat for juvenile Chinook and other salmonid species to spawn, grow, and survive on Issaquah Creek in Lake Sammamish State Park.
The renovation is also necessary due to upcoming Highway 18 construction executed by the Washington State Department of Transportation. The Highway 18 improvement project, which includes work on the entrance and exist at Tiger Summit, may eventually impact the nearby parking area in the highway right of way.
Renovations at the Tiger Mountain Summit Trailhead are funded by the 2024 Capital Budget and grants.
Contractors are slated to finish work by October 31, 2025.
