To commemorate eight decades of wildfire prevention messaging, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a Smokey Bear 80th Birthday And Prevention event at the Natural Resource Building in Olympia, WA, on Aug. 9.

 

Members of the public are invited to join DNR staff members for an afternoon that will include birthday cupcakes and other refreshments; a photo opportunity with Smokey; booths on campfire safety, burning safely and defensible space; Wildfire Ready Neighbors; and lots of prevention information. This is a children-friendly event.
