Agency Will Host Public, Yakima User Groups to Collaborate on Future of Public Lands and Recreation

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host an open discussion on November 15, 2022 to solicit public feedback on how recreation and use is managed on DNR-managed lands in Yakima County.

DNR will also seek nominations from the public for participation in a focus group that will collaborate on recreation and public use topics in the county. Nominees to the focus group will meet regularly throughout the year and provide input about recreational and public use priorities in Yakima County.

“This meeting will be an opportunity for DNR to connect with our land users and visitors to discuss challenges and opportunities the department faces in managing our lands for public use,” DNR Southeast Region Recreation and Public Use Manager Stephanie Margheim said “This is a chance for us to build on our existing relationships and create new ones.”

The goal of the meeting and focus group is to help identify challenges facing land managers and user groups, determine what existing resources can be used to improve the overall public experience, and highlight collaborative solutions for the agency and the public. All members of the public with an interest in recreation and DNR public land use are encouraged to attend and are also eligible to be nominated to the focus group.
