DNR taking a new look at Washington

A lidar-based model of the channeled scablands in the Columbia Basin.DNR is using the best available technology to get a better look at Washington's geologic hazards.

As the official Washington Geological Survey, DNR's Division of Geology and Earth Resources collects, analyzes, and publicly distributes detailed information about our state’s geology.

With special funding from the state legislature, DNR is focusing on identifying and mapping landslides, But there are innumerable additional benefits and applications of this data both inside and outside of the field of geology, such as mapping flood plains and geologic features, like the Channeled Scablands pictured to the left.
