Update on John’s River Fire in Grays Harbor County

The fire is 77 percent contained

 
The Johns River Fire in Grays Harbor County was discovered on June 25 burning commercial timberland owned by Grays Harbor County, which is under DNR fire protection.
 
On June 25 and 26, fire crews battled temperatures in the 90s, with the relative humidity dipping below 30 percent, heavy fuels on steep slopes and strong afternoon winds.
 
The fire is burning in slash, timber, and brush, and currently has a Type 3 Incident Management Team fighting this fire. Resources on this fire:
  • 84 personnel, including five correctional camp crews
  • 6 DNR engines
  • 1 South Beach Regional Fire Authority Tender
  • Contract logging equipment and fallers
While not currently assigned, DNR did fly two Type 2 helicopters on the fire on June 25 and 26.
 
The fire is currently 76 acres and 77 percent contained. Fortunately, rain is occurring over the fire area today.
 
Crews anticipate having full containment of the fire area by end of shift June 29, and do not expect the final acreage to change.
 
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
