Lost Mountain Land Exchange would increase access to DNR-managed lands southwest of Sequim

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is planning a public presentation and hearing September 21 in Port Angeles to discuss a proposed land exchange that would increase access to DNR-managed lands in Clallam County.

DNR and the Gates family would each be exchanging 7-acre parcels of equivalent value at the end of Lost Mountain Road southwest of Sequim. The exchange would provide a direct access point to Lost Mountain Road from state lands, making the area more efficient to manage.

The public hearing, which provides information and allows for public testimony, is set for 6 p.m. September 21 in the multi-purpose room of the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. 7th St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.

DNR encourages written testimony from interested parties. Attendance at this meeting is not required to testify regarding this exchange, and written testimony is equivalent to in-person verbal testimony.

Written testimony must be received by October 6. Please mail written testimony to DNR, Lost Mountain Land Exchange, Attn: Bob Winslow, P.O. Box 40714, Olympia, WA 98504.

All prospective attendees are asked to stay home if they have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, or exposure to someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Following the evaluation of hearing testimony and a property appraisal, DNR and the Gates family will finalize an exchange proposal to present to the Board of Natural Resources for a final decision at one of its regularly scheduled monthly meetings. The Board meeting provides an additional opportunity for public comment.

Maps, photos, and further information about the proposed exchange are available at dnr.wa.gov/managed-lands/land-transactions/lost-mountain-land-exchange.
