West Richland property no longer suitable for management; proceeds from sale will be used to purchase replacement parcels elsewhere in state

The Washington State Board of Natural Resources approved the auction of a Benton County parcel during its meeting Tuesday morning.

The 7.5-acre parcel, which is in the city of West Richland, comprises three 2.5-acre lots, which could be developed for up to eight homes under the current zoning. The parcel is not near other lands that DNR manages, making it unsuitable for ongoing management. The minimum auction price for the parcel is $498,000.

The proceeds from the auction will be used to acquire properties across the state that are better suited to be managed to produce revenue to support schools and other critical services across Washington state. DNR intends to hold the auction in early 2023.

For decades, DNR has worked to continue acquiring forestlands across the state to support schools and counties. Since 1980, the department has added more than 100,000 acres of forestland to public ownership through its transactions program.
