The Landslide Hazard Zonation project was conceived as part of the unstable slopes rule strategy of the Forests and Fish Report dated July, 1999.
- Description:
-
- Abstract:
-
The Hazone coverage is a compilation of all known landslide hazard zones (also known as mass wasting map units) in the state of Washington. These have been compiled from previously existing watershed analyses, public, tribal, and private assessments, as well as incorporating data from the landslide hazard zonation project (LHZ), as these LHZ assessments become available. It has one related table Haz_Src_dat, related by the item Haz_src_id.
- Purpose:
-
To provide a screening tool that identifies the known landslide hazards for the state of Washington, to eliminate the error of omission in the identification of unstable slopes. To support the needs of the Landslide Hazard Zonation project, as well as to provide and ongoing, supported platform to place landslide hazard area information that is regularly collected by a variety of agencies, both public and private.
- Supplemental_Information:
-
This dataset is intended for us in land management, planning, regulation, research, and monitoring. For a complete picture of landslide hazard, this dataset (areas that produce landslide hazard) should be used in conjunction with the statewide landslide inventory (LSI) of known landslide locations.

numerous sources have contributed data to be compiled into this data layer. There is a
related file (haz_src_dat) that lists each of the source documents. Most of the sources of
information are from watershed analyses, regional landform identification projects, and the
landslide hazard zonation project itself.
