ADMIRALTY INLET NATURAL AREA PRESERVE

Features Protected: Golden paintbrush
Ecoregion:  Puget Trough (Island County)

Site Description
This preserve is jointly owned by the state Department of Natural Resources, which owns a conservation easement, and Whidbey Camano Land Trust, which owns and manages the land. The NAP is located within Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve and protects one of only 11 remaining populations of golden paintbrush, a federally listed threatened plant species. Recovery goals at this site support a multi-agency effort to restore this species to a viable population size and to its former health and vigor. Note: the Whidbey Camano Land Trust refers to this site as the Naas Natural Area Preserve to honor the Naas family for locating golden paintbrush populations on Whidbey Island.

Science, Research and Monitoring
Public and private universities, other research institutions and individual researchers may contact DNR to propose a research project at the site. If you are interested in pursuing research at Admiralty Inlet (Naas) NAP, please contact David Wilderman, natural areas ecologist, at david.wilderman@dnr.wa.gov
