The State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) requires agencies to evaluate their actions that affect the environment. SEPA rules require agencies to consider any potential negative environmental impacts before approving or denying a proposal.
DNR's SEPA Center helps DNR comply with SEPA so that the impact analysis will provide decision makers a record of whether or not negative environmental impacts will occur when they consider moving forward on proposed projects or actions for forestry, mining, mineral extraction, and other activities proposed on DNR-managed state lands as well as activities regulated by DNR.
DNR's SEPA Center coordinates a public process for environmental review on specific projects, such as proposals for:
- Aquatic, Agricultural, or Oil and Gas Leases
- Timber Sales
- Recreational Areas
- Irrigation Projects
- Forest Practices
- Energy Projects
DNR's SEPA Center also coordinates a public process for environmental review of proposed policies, plans, rules or programs concerning, for instance:
- Land Management
- Aquatic Reserves
- Recreation and Public Use
- Rule Making
- Habitat Conservation
