State Trust Lands Habitat Conservation Plan
Guide to Plant Associations of the Olympic Experimental State Forest
Ecological site classification is the foundation of site specific forest management. Excellent classifications exist for national forests within Washington, but they often poorly represent the lowland forest types found on state trust lands. This plant association guide provides the user with
the ability to identify forest types on state managed lands in the Olympic Experimental State Forest-- 264,000 acres (107,000 hectares) of state trust lands managed by DNR on the northwest corner of the Olympic peninsula. This classification is used by land managers for forest inventory and adaptive management to transfer site-specific information on growth potential and management responses to other locations.
Project Status: Initiated in 1995; the project concluded in 2001.
