Goldmark to re-dedicate Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve in Whatcom County
After more than a decade in the works, Cherry Point to finally get management plan
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites members of the media and public November 18, 2010, to Birch Bay State Park, 5105 Helweg Road Blaine, WA 98230 at 2 p.m. for the official re-dedication ceremony of the Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve and adoption of the final reserve management plan.
Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark will speak at the event highlighting the success of local partner organizations that worked with DNR on the reserve proposal and the importance of protecting Puget Sound.

Head north on 1-5, take exit 266 for WA-548 N Grandview Rd toward Custer. Take left at WA-548 N/Grandview Rd. Drive seven miles and turn right at Jackson Rd. Take first left onto Helweg Rd.
The event will take place along Birch Bay drive in the day use area.

DNR Partnerships
The Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve was originally designated as an aquatic reserve in August of 2000. Thanks to the collaborative effort of multiple non-governmental organizations, state, local and federal agencies and private citizens, a comprehensive and diverse management plan has been developed for this unique aquatic environment.
