Get DNR’s daily wildfire updates online
Links for media and public to follow wildfires in Washington State
OLYMPIA – Members of the media and public are invited to check online daily for news about wildfire incidents on public and private lands protected by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The department’s website, www.dnr.wa.gov, posts updates online each day, generally at noon. The updates are posted more frequently on days with high fire activity or rapidly changing weather.

Each update lists the name of the fire incident, its location, estimated acres burned, and news about its status, such as the percentage of the fire contained. Addition information in each update may include:
- Agencies working with DNR on the fire
- Community impact (such closures of roads, recreations areas, evacuations, etc.)
- Resources assigned (including personnel and aircraft)
- Incident command leadership and public information contacts

DNR’s wildfire mission
Administered by Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark, DNR is responsible for preventing and fighting wildfires on 12.7 million acres of private, state and tribal-owned forestlands in Washington. DNR is the state’s largest on-call fire department. During fire season, this includes more than 700 DNR employees who have other permanent jobs with the agency and about 375 seasonal workers. DNR also participates in Washington’s coordinated interagency approach to firefighting.
