State DNR to hold public hearing on the transfer of Chehalis Western Trail segment to Thurston County

State DNR to hold public hearing on the transfer of Chehalis Western Trail segment to Thurston County
Transfer will complete county ownership of entire trail system

OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold a public hearing on a proposed transfer of a segment of the Chehalis Western Trail to Thurston County. DNR currently manages 5.3 miles of the trail north of Martin Way in Olympia.

Date:        Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Time:        6:30 p.m.
Location: Expo Hall, Thurston County Fairgrounds
                3054 Carpenter Rd. S.E., Lacey
 
A representative from Thurston County will be on hand to answer questions. DNR will make a record of the public testimony given at this hearing.

This urban trail provides multiple recreational opportunities including walking, bicycle riding, jogging, and horseback riding. Construction of the final overpass needed to connect this segment of the trail with the rest of the trail system is scheduled to begin this spring. The transfer of the trail will complete county ownership of the entire Chehalis Western Trail.
