Groundhog Day Work Party Scheduled for Rock Creek Campground in Yacolt Burn State Forest
OLYMPIA – Staff of the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and volunteers will gather on Groundhog Day, February 2, for a work party at the popular Rock Creek Campground in the Yacolt Burn State Forest. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., individuals, students, families, and groups of friends are invited to join volunteers from various Boy Scout troops and other recreation groups to clean up fire pits, campsites and picnic areas; clear out paths in the campgrounds, refurbish signs and other structures; and add railings to a new bridge.
Participants will meet at the pavilion in Rock Creek Campground, located just east of Brush Prairie and Hockinson in eastern Clark County. Bring two sets of gloves, boots, raingear, layered clothing, lunch, and water.
In addition to improving the facilities and promoting stewardship of state lands, the work party is a great opportunity to visit the outdoors. Hikers, bicyclists and equestrians use this area year-round.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please contact D Becker, Volunteer Coordinator, at d.becker@dnr.wa.gov, or Jessica Kimmick, Recreation Forester for the Department of Natural Resources Pacific Cascade Region, at Jessica.kimmick@dnr.wa.gov, or call them at (360) 577-2025.
