Media invited to June 26 helitack training
Crews prepare for fire season
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites media to observe live training for helitack (helicopter attack) crews in Cle Elum on June 26.
Use of these fast-strike helicopters helps DNR quickly transport firefighters into a target area and control fires before they grow into larger blazes, reducing the number of acres burned.
Media will receive a firsthand look at firefighters training with helicopters to fight wildland fires. Firefighters will practice using helicopters to transport personnel, water, and firefighting support equipment. Media will have an opportunity for interviews and to take photos and shoot b-roll of the helicopters and crews.
