Media wildfire orientation offered in Seattle on May 6
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a wildfire orientation for all of Western Washington media on May 6, 2014. This orientation is to provide local media outlets with the safety training required to access wildfires under DNR’s jurisdiction. Course participants will receive a certification card that will allow access to firelines when covering wildfire incidents.
Note: Media personnel without proof of completed fire shelter training may have their access restricted during a fire.
Reporters and photographers that participate in the orientation will receive information regarding local contacts, interagency media guidelines for wildfires, fire shelter training (required prior to visiting a fireline), and a wildfire press kit. Media personnel will be given a fire shelter test to demonstrate that they can deploy a fire shelter in 25 seconds or less.
