Rains wash out bridge in Tahuya State Forest
Kammenga Bridge on Tahuya River Trail is closed
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) advises the public that the Kammenga Bridge in Tahuya State Forest near Belfair is closed. The bridge washed out last weekend during heavy rains.
The bridge is located on the Tahuya River Trail and is a main trunk trail for the Tahuya State Forest. The trail serves motorbikes, all-terrain vehicles/quads, hiking, and mountain bikes. DNR’s trail crew closed the trail segments leading up to the bridge with wooden fencing and posted “trail closed” signs.
The crossing will be closed indefinitely. DNR will be looking into a more sustainable location for a new bridge in the coming months.
