Public access to Barbecue Flats closed
Popular recreation area affected by closure
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is working with private landowners to restore access to Barbecue Flats after a road closure on adjacent land. There is no estimate for the reopening of this area that is popular with hikers and equestrians.
Barbecue Flats, located in the Wenas Valley, is 25 miles North of Yakima. The road accessing Barbecue Flats, Meloy Road, is closed one mile from the junction of Wenas and Audubon Road.
DNR is encouraging recreationists to visit Cascade Camp. It is off of Audubon Road with dispersed camping and riding opportunities.
