Commissioner and Governor prepare for fire season
Annual test insures safety for elected officials while visiting fires this summer

OLYMPIA – Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark will welcome Governor Chris Gregoire as they both take the State Firefighters’ Work Capacity Test in anticipation of this year’s fire season.

The test includes a timed walking test and successful deployment of a fire shelter. This test is required each year for all individuals who will be approaching a wildfire.

 When:May 21st from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
 Where:Chehalis Western Trail at Woodard Bay, Olympia, Washington

Directions from I-5 Northbound:
Take Exit 108B, Sleater Kinney Road, northbound; follow the signs to Sleater Kinney Road.
Sleater Kinney Road NE becomes 56th Avenue NE when you turn a corner to the left.
Turn right on Schinke Road NE. Drive about 1 mile.
The parking area is on the right.
Look for the neon green signs directing you from the parking lot to the trailhead.

Directions from I-5 Southbound:
Take Exit 109, Martin Way Road NE.
Turn right on Martin Way Road NE, then right again on Sleater Kinney Road NE.
Sleater Kinney Road NE becomes 56th Avenue NE when you turn a corner to the left.
Turn right on Schinke Road NE. Drive about 1 mile.
The parking area is on the right.
Look for the neon green signs directing you from the parking lot to the trailhead.
