Abstract:
The Sitka Spruce boundary layer was created to satisfy the Forest Practices Emergency Rules of March 20, 2000 concerning the classification of Type 4 waters within this zone. This zone corresponds to the coastal fog zone depicted by the "Generalized vegetation map of Oregon and Washington" in Franklin and Dyrness, 1973. |

Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.
The Sitka Spruce boundary layer was created to satisfy the Forest Practices Emergency Rules of March 20, 2000. The Franklin and Dyrness, 1973, "Generalized vegetation map of Oregon and Washington" (at a scale of approximately 1:2,000,000) was digitized to create the current sitka spruce zone. According to Forest Practices Rules, if the uppermost point of perennial flow cannot be identified with standard observations (see board manual, section 23), then type 4 Waters begin at a point along the channel where the contributing basin area is at least 13 acres in the Sitka Spruce Zone.

Attributes accurately identify island polygons within the Sitka Spruce vegetation zone of Washington.
Dataset is complete.
This map is at a scale of approximately 1:2,000,000. This equates grossly to +/- 3000 ft.
The fog zone on the "Generalized vegetation map of Oregon and Washington" (figure 27., p. 45) was digitized to create the sitka spruce zone.
The fog zone which the Franklin-Dyrness map of 1973 depicts was digitized to create the current sitka spruce zone as of August 4, 2001.
