About Washington’s DNR
Washington’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages about 3 million acres of state trust lands forests and agricultural, grazing and commercial properties that earn revenue to help fund public schools, universities and more.
DNR strives constantly to manage lands more effectively, to improve the value of the lands for the trusts, increase their potential for earning income, and reduce financial risks to the trusts.
About 1.1 million acres of state trust lands are in grazing or agricultural production. Of these roughly 12,000 acres are orchards and 4,400 acres are vineyards currently being grown and leased on state trust lands. For more than 100 years DNR and its lessees have been partners in local communities across the state.
