Proposed SDS Mineral Exchange
This exchange would consolidate DNR’s ownership of mineral rights to a parcel of land in Klickitat County for eventual transfer to the U.S. Forest Service.
Exchange Details
DNR proposes to exchange mineral rights of equal value with SDS Lumber Company of Bingen, Washington. DNR and SDS own the rights to minerals beneath each other’s parcels. This exchange would enable each party to have clear title to the minerals underneath the forestland it already owns.
Although the minerals under these lands are considered of low potential value, DNR wishes to exchange the state trust land parcel in Klickitat County (in a separate transaction) for one owned by Plum Creek Timber elsewhere in the state. [Plum Creek intends to subsequently transfer that parcel to the U.S. Forest Service, which typically owns both mineral and surface rights to lands it manages.]
