Oral Public Auctions to Lease State Trust Lands for Irrigated Agriculture
August 25th State DNR auction to lease two parcels in Franklin County
OLYMPIA – Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is offering two irrigated agriculture leases at oral bid public auctions on August 25, 2009 at the Franklin County Courthouse Commissioner’s Boardroom, one at 1:00 p.m., and the other at 3:00 p.m., PDT. The auctions are for rights to lease Common School trust lands in Franklin County for irrigated agriculture.
“We want to make sure that the agricultural community is aware of these lease opportunities,” said Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark. “Especially during these challenging economic times, revenue from state trust lands is even more critical for the public schools in our state.”
DNR manages Common School trust lands to earn funding to build kindergarten through 12th grade public schools statewide.

Bidders must be pre-approved before the auction. Pre-qualification packets are due to DNR no later than August 18, 2009. Qualification packets must be placed in a sealed envelope, and reference which public auction(s) the bidder would like to participate in and sent to:

1:00 p.m.: Proposed Lease No. 12-084298
The first oral auction will begin at 1:00 for lease of 612.5 acres of common school trust lands— 527.9 acres in irrigated agriculture, and 84.6 acres of non-production. The parcel is located about 8 miles northeast of Pasco off Falls Road. Water provided to premises by two irrigation wells. The lease term is January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2019.
3:00 p.m.: Proposed Lease No. 12-084299
The second oral auction will begin at 3:00 for lease of 320 acres of common school trust lands,— 262.2 acres currently irrigated by circles, 27.2 acres currently irrigated by hand/wheel lines and 30.6 acres of non-production. The parcel is located about 7 miles northwest of Basin City off Mt. Vista Road. Water is provided through the South Columbia Basin Irrigation District. The 10-year lease term is from October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2019.
Managing State Trust Lands
DNR manages 2.9 million acres of state-owned trust lands, providing revenue for specific beneficiaries and many benefits for the public. Revenue from state trust lands helps fund construction of public schools statewide and supports state universities, prisons, and other institutions, along with services in many counties.
Revenue-producing activities on state trust lands include:
- Harvest of timber and other forest products.
- Leasing of agricultural lands for orchards, vineyards, irrigated row crops, dryland crops, and grazing.
- Oil and Gas exploration and mineral leases
- Leasing for communication sites
- Wind Power leases
- Leasing of commercial properties.
