Public hearing June 15 on proposed exchange of mineral rights between state and SDS Lumber Company

Exchange would consolidate state ownership of mineral rights for trust land parcel in Klickitat County

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which manages state trust lands, proposes to exchange mineral rights of equal potential and acreage with SDS Lumber Company of Bingen, Washington. A public meeting and a hearing to accept public testimony will be held:

Time:
Exchange overview: 6 - 6:45 p.m.;  Public hearing: 7 - 8 p.m.

Date:
June 15, 2009

Place:
Pioneer Center, White Salmon Meeting Room, No. 112, 501 NE Washington St., White Salmon, WA

Background

DNR and SDS own rights to minerals beneath each other’s land. Although the minerals are of low potential, the exchange would give each party clear title to minerals beneath forestland it already owns.

The properties involved are:

• State of Washington parcels: Portions of  Sec 16, T3N, R11E, W.M. in Klickitat County
• SDS Lumber Company parcels: Portions of Sec10, 11 & 12, T3N, R11E, W.M. in Klickitat County

Public input accepted until July 1, 2009

The deadline to submit written comments about this exchange is July 1, 2009.

Or by mail to:
