Statement from DNR regarding Taylor Shellfish lawsuits
OLYMPIA – The following is a statement from Communications & Outreach Director Aaron Toso regarding the monetary claim filed by Taylor Shellfish today:
“It is unfortunate that Taylor Shellfish has tried to justify its long-term, illegal trespass of state-owned aquatic land through lawsuits,” said Communication & Outreach Director Aaron Toso. “The state’s position is clear; the disputed tidelands are clearly owned by the state, Taylor owes the public damages for illegally trespassing on state land, and surveys support the state’s position.”
“Although the evidence is fully on the side of the state, it serves no party to drain resources in a courtroom. Commissioner Goldmark still hopes that Taylor Shellfish will negotiate a settlement for its illegal trespass that is fair to the public and to its company. We have already reached out to Taylor Shellfish and requested to begin negotiations,” said Toso.
