To propose a name, change a name, or correct the spelling of a geographic feature located in the state of Washington, please download a Geographic Name Application.
Please print and fill out the form with as much information as possible. It is important to document how the feature has been treated in the past and why you want to give it your proposed name. Please be sure and include a map of the surrounding area with the feature you are proposing a name for highlighted. Please mail the completed application along with any additional materials to:
WA State Committee on Geographic Names
PO Box 47030
Olympia, WA 98504-7030
Once your application has been received, you will receive notification of the next Committee on Geographic Names meeting and a copy of the agenda. If there is missing or incomplete information concerning your proposal, committee staff will contact you before the next committee meeting.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Caleb Maki, Executive Secretary for the Committee on Geographic Names at (360) 902-1280, or by email. Thank you for your interest in geographic names.
