Welcome to the Office of Budget and Economics. It’s our job to help DNR manage a $400 million biennial budget that comes from revenues produced from state trust and public lands. Our division’s economic forecasts help DNR protect Washington’s natural resources and manage millions of acres of trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities, counties, and other trust beneficiaries.
We help keep the public and policymakers on top of market trends by publishing information and authoritative data we collect on Washington’s forestry products. These publications include the following.
We develop the quarterly Economic and Timber Revenue Forecast by gathering and analyzing accurate data about current economic conditions, and making objective projections of future revenue for trust funds and their beneficiaries.
Every biennium, the Washington State Mill Survey reports key statistics about the state’s wood products processing industry. This publication will tell you where logs used in sawmills come from by region and land ownership. It also describes what the mills make from harvested logs, such as veneer and plywood; pulp and board; shakes and shingles; and posts, poles, and pilings. You also can look up how logs are exported and where they go.
Every biennium, we prepare the Timber Harvest Report. Based on receipts we gather from the state Department of Revenue, this report tells you how many logs were harvested from public and private forests in the preceding two-year period.
